General Description
Route: Linear path that travels along different roads (GR11, and communal paths marked with a yellow dot). The paths are well marked, except once we pass the Estanys de Montmantell, where the path can easily get lost if not careful, and the ascent to the Pic del Pla de l'Estany is unmarked. From the peak, the descent to the Estany del Port Dret has a steep incline and is made of loose earth that slips when stepped on. This is a high mountain terrain route; we will need to be accustomed to moving in this type of path. Observations: We will pass both up and down by the refuge of Pla de l'Estany, where we will find a water spring. We will also pass through many areas with rivers, ponds, and we will move through areas with stone debris. Be cautious about being at high altitudes and without vegetation; in the summer, the heat and solar radiation can be strong or very strong, it is necessary to protect yourself. Ascent: We will leave from the parking of Comapedrosa and head towards the Refugi del Pla de l'Estany, passing through a first stretch of forest and seeing the bordes of Coruvilla. We will ascend by the Collet de la Font Podrida, which will take us to Pla de l'Estany. Here in front of us, we will already see the refuge of Pla de l'Estany. We will continue the ascent now on higher mountain terrain; we pass by the Cabana de Montmantell and will soon arrive at the Estanys de Montmantell. From here upwards, the path is more alpine and a bit more vertical as we ascend towards the Pic del Pla de l'Estany Sud, where we will see a spectacular panoramic view of the peaks (Alt del Comapedrosa, Roca Entravessada, Pic de Racofred and its ridge up to the Pic de Medacorba). Below us will be the Port Dret and the Estany del Port Dret; in this section of descent, the terrain is slippery and one must have experience to face it safely. When we reach the estany del Port Dret, we will get one of the best views in the country. Descent: On the way down, we will follow the same path as the ascent, although once at the Pic del Pla de l'Estany we can go straight down the central path of the peak, which also requires experience in moving through slippery and loose terrain. Upon reaching the Pla de l'Estany, we can decide to take the forest track to reach the parking of Comapedrosa if we want to opt for a slightly faster route.
