Museu Casa Rull

Museu Casa Rull

Cultural heritage · Museum

"To admire the living conditions of a wealthy Andorran family from centuries ago is quite a privilege. The conservation and restoration of Casa Rull allows us to return to the past and appreciate the importance of Andorran houses in a mountain society. Casa Rull symbolizes the living history of a country that always finds a way to pay homage to its own. The house was built in the 17th century and transformed as the family evolved. In the 19th century, the dwelling suffered a fire that caused further reforms to the house. This museum brings you closer to the way of life of a farming family with land, at a time when farming and livestock were the economic basis of Andorran rural society. You will learn firsthand how Andorran families operated, their organization, and the distribution of tasks and obligations within the home. Casa Rull was one of the most important houses in the parish of La Massana. Its former inhabitants, the Perich family, represent a clear example of a lineage of landowning farmers (in Catalan called pagesos grassos) from the Pyrenees. Under its roof lived heirs and heiresses, knights and ladies, servants and maidens, whose lives bear witness to the various periods of prosperity and hardship that the family experienced throughout history. Casa Rull is part of the Rural Habitat itinerary of Andorra. Services: Guided tour with prior reservation or self-guided with audio guide. Duration: 1 hour. Pont de Sant Antoni

Pont de Sant Antoni

Cultural heritage · Architecture

In La Massana, we have the Sant Antoni de la Grella bridge. A bridge that crosses over the Valira del Nord river. It has a single arch and has the profile of a donkey’s back. The bridge crosses over the Valira del Nord river and follows the royal road that connected the parish with Andorra la Vella. Its construction is of medieval origin and was rebuilt in the mid-20th century. Around the bridge stands the chapel of Sant Antoni de la Grella, originally Romanesque and restored in the 1940s. The Sant Antoni de la Grella bridge is a very simple structure, with only a lowered semi-circular arch, a completely paved roadway, and a small wall. It has a height of 5.55 meters and a length of 21.20 m. Finally, it should be noted that this bridge is dedicated to Sant Antoni Abat, the patron of "traginers", who were the men who transported goods down the river with their boats.

It is estimated that the tree lived around 250 years! The Consul Major, Eva Sansa, and the artist Txordi Ricart, inaugurated the sculpture on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, accompanied by a good group of boys and girls, who will now explain its meaning to their schoolmates .

The urban structure of Barruera is more open than that of other towns in the valley, with stone houses, thatched roofs and flat areas that reflect its traditional function as an agricultural and transit centre. In the centre of the town is the Church of Sant Feliu de Barruera, a Romanesque temple from the 11th and 12th centuries integrated into the complex declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Its solid and elegant bell tower stands out in the profile of the town and testifies to the historical importance of Barruera in the valley. The river and the meadows that surround the town have always been fundamental to local life. Just outside the village lies the Salencar de Barruera, a wetland of high ecological value included in the Natura 2000 Network, which offers flat itineraries ideal for walks, bird watching and family activities. This natural environment allows us to understand the relationship between human activity and the river environment over the centuries. Església de Sant Feliu de Barruera

Església de Sant Feliu de Barruera

Cultural heritage · Church

The Church of Sant Feliu de Barruera is one of the most representative Romanesque temples in the Boí Valley, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located in the center of the town of Barruera, next to the Noguera de Tor river, the church reflects the historical importance of this town as a crossing point and organization of the valley. Built between the 11th and 12th centuries, Sant Feliu has a sober architecture but of great construction quality. The building has a single nave with a semicircular apse, built with regular stone ashlars. Its most unique element is the square-shaped bell tower, which rises elegantly and is decorated with twinned openings and friezes of Lombard arches, a characteristic feature of the Pyrenean Romanesque. This bell tower, visible from different points in the town, acts as a visual and symbolic reference for Barruera. Inside, the space is austere and balanced, designed for the liturgy and medieval community life. Although the original mural paintings have not been preserved, the church allows us to perfectly understand the functionality of the Romanesque temples of the valley and their relationship with the daily life of the inhabitants. Its location, integrated into the urban fabric, differentiates it from other more isolated churches and helps us understand the central role it had within the community. A visit to Sant Feliu de Barruera is ideal for those who want to delve deeper into the Romanesque of the Boí Valley from a local perspective, combining architectural heritage with the discovery of the town and its natural environment. It is part of the cultural itineraries of the valley and is a key point to contextualize the rest of the churches in the complex.
